PopUpCop's Edit allow and block Lists dialog allows you to create lists of web sites for which annoyances are selectively enabled or disabled (blocked). In contrast to the pages in the PopUpCop Options dialog, which show lists for each behavior, this dialog shows all the sites for all behaviors. These lists override other settings currently in effect. For example, you may generally disallow annoyances, animated images or Script timers except those at your stockbroker's web site.

PopUpCop Edit Allow and
Block Lists

Items in the list are displayed in a font or color which shows their current status:
  • Items that have not been modified and are not session-only items are displayed in a normal font.
  • Items that have been modified are displayed in a bold font. (See the item *.themarker.co.il in the block list in the above illustration.)
  • Items that have been deleted are displayed in a gray font. (See the item *.accuweather.com at the top of the allow list in the above illustration.)
  • Items that will be deleted after you close all Internet Explorer windows (Session-only) are displayed in an italic font. (See the item *.sportsline.com at the top of the block list in the above illustration.)
The annoyances check boxes are checked, unchecked or grayed, depending on their status in the current selection:
  • Annoyances that are blocked or allowed for sites in the current selection are checked. (See Layers in the above illustration.)
  • Annoyances that are not referenced for sites in the current selection are not checked. (See Popups in the above illustration.)
  • Annoyances that are blocked or allowed for one or more sites in the current selection and are not referenced for one or mores sites in the current selection are checked with a gray check mark. (See Flash Movies in the above illustration.)

(Hold the shift key while left-clicking on an item to select all the items between your anchor click and the new click, or hold the Control (Ctrl) key down while left-clicking to select or unselect and individual item in the list.)

PopUpCop helps you form the proper URL to enter in the Enter new page, server or domain dialog. When you click on New... then you see this dialog:

PopUpCop Enter new page,
server or domain Dialog

This dialog allows you to type in the URL (web address) of site that you want to add to either list. The two buttons on the right, Make server and Make domain are URL helper tools. They allow you to take a complicated URL and quickly turn it into either a server address or a domain address.

For example, if you copy a URL from your browser, such as, http://www.popupcop.com/help.html?version=2.5.0.01&src=PopUpCop and then you paste this into the type-in field, clicking the buttons will simplify the URL and make it into a server or domain. Clicking Make server gives www.popupcop.com and clicking Make domain gives *.popupcop.com. The asterisk (*) tells PopUpCop to match any characters in the name. Thus, you can filter on similar domain names, such as abcdserver.com and xyzserver.com, by entering *server.com.
