Why is PopUpCop not accepting my registration code?

Your registration code for PopUpCop contains both capital letters and numbers. It is easy to confuse some letters and numbers in the code. In particular, the letter "O" and the number "0" can be difficult to distinguish. Also, the number "1" can look like the lower-case letter "l" or the upper-case letter "I".

If the system date on your computer is incorrect, PopUpCop might not accept your name and code. Please verify that the system date on your computer is set to the correct date.

Finally, if you purchased your license after December 31, 2006, and you are using a version of PopUpCop older than version 2.6.0.41, PopUpCop will not accept your code. You will have to upgrade to the latest version of PopUpCop in order for PopUpCop to accept your code.

If you are still having problems entering your registration code, write us at customer-service@popupcop.com. We will gladly provide you further assistance.
I lost my PopUpCop registration code. What should I do?

Write us at customer-service@popupcop.com. We will be happy to send you your registration information.

If your email address has changed since you registered PopUpCop, don't worry. We will ask you to confirm your identity, and will send you your information once we have done so.

How can I tell which annoyances are being suppressed?

There are three ways to find out:

  1. Let your mouse hover over the slider for a few seconds, or...

  2. Click the button to see a list of the enabled/disabled statuses for all the annoyances.

  3. Choose "Customize PopUpCop..." from PopUpCop's pull down menu (click the shield button) to display the settings for the current annoyance level.

What about secure sites?

PopUpCop assumes that any site whose URL begins with https://... is safe and no annoyances are suppressed. Click here for more information about exempt sites.
What about trusted sites?

PopUpCop assumes that any site in your Trusted sites security zone is safe and no annoyances are suppressed. Click here for more information about exempt sites.
Does PopUpCop handle cookies?

Yes; it can enable and disable them. However, it is no substitute for a robust cookie management tool. Cookies are more a privacy issue than an annoyance issue. Specialized tools are available elsewhere for privacy and security concerns.
Sometimes I'm in a hurry and want to be able to surf the web without all the fluff. Other times I find some of the "annoyances" less annoying. Is there an easy way to turn these things off and on?

Yes! Just slide the slider left for fewer annoyances, right for more. Annoyance suppression is organized into levels. Sliding the slider changes level. From left to right, the levels are:
  1. Very annoying sites (most annoyances suppressed)
  2. Annoying sites (some annoyances suppressed)
  3. Sites with popups (only popups suppressed)

Can't I do all these things in Internet Explorer's Internet Options? Why do I need PopUpCop?

PopUpCop does duplicate some of the configuration features of Internet Explorer (IE). However, it provides a much friendlier user interface for frequently-used features. For example, if you have a dial-up connection and would like to turn images off so that pages load faster, install PopUpCop's Images On/Off button on your toolbar. You'll find it much more convenient to click this button than to click down through IE's layers of dialog boxes.

PopUpCop and IE communicate with each other. Changing a setting in either changes it in both.

PopUpCop also provides some features that IE's Internet Options don't, most notably popup prevention. The more you surf the web, the more you'll find that PopUpCop provides an indispensable improvement to your web experience.

How do I install buttons on my toolbar for frequently-used PopUpCop features?

Click the shield to get PopUpCop's main menu. Choose Customize PopUpCop... Go to Settings buttons or Action buttons. Select the buttons for the features you want.
So many buttons! How do I remember what they do?

Easy. Just hover your mouse over a button to see an explanation of its purpose.
