PopUpCop's buttons aren't shown in my
browser toolbar. How can I fix this?
Basic toolbar management procedures are
described in the Toolbar help FAQ page.
Try them first.
PopUpCop can fail to appear in the View/Toolbars menu
for a couple of reasons:
If you upgrade PopUpCop without closing
all your Internet Explorer windows and restarting your computer,
some essential files failed to be replaced because they were in use.
The solution is simply to restart your computer.
Sometimes, the install program is unsuccessful in its attempt to show PopUpCop on your toolbar.
Detailed instructions to show PopUpCop can be found here.
If you are using Internet Explorer version 5.0 or 5.01, the PopUpCop menu item in the Toolbars sub menu is
often labeled with the word Radio. (More exactly, the label for the first toolbar control is
used for all other toolbar controls.)
This incorrect labeling is caused by a program flaw in
Internet Explorer version 5.0. This flaw was fixed in Internet Explorer version 5.5. You must upgrade
to version 5.5 or later of Internet Explorer to correct the flaw.
Buried deep within Internet Explorer version 6 (only!) is a setting
that sometimes causes install problems.
The name of this setting is
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart).
If this flag is turned off, PopUpCop cannot show up on your toolbar.
The install process tests this flag and asks for your permission to
set it to "yes". If the install program failed to detect the setting, or
you changed the setting after install, you must change the flag manually:
On the Internet Explorer main menu, choose Tools.
Choose Internet Options....
When the Internet Options dialog displays, choose, the Advanced tab
Scroll down until you see the option labeled
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) in the Browsing category.
Make sure that the checkbox to the left of the item is checked.
When I try to show or hide PopUpCop using Internet Explorer's toolbar menu,
a different toolbar shows or hides.
Internet Explorer tries to keep track of the location and identity of each toolbar add-in
that you have installed. Unfortunately, sometimes after installing or uninstalling a toolbar,
Internet Explorer gets confused about which toolbar is which. In these situations, when you
check or uncheck a toolbar item on the View.Toolbars menu, the actual toolbar which is
shown or hidden is not the one that you checked.
How can I fix this problem?
EdenSoft has written a small program which will correct the situation. If you run
the program, the problem described above will be corrected, but you will have to
configure your toolbar again. Click here to download the program.
If you prefer to fix the problem manually using regedit.exe, instructions are available
from Microsoft here. While the symptoms described in the Microsoft article
is not the same as the one described here, the resolution for both problems is the same.
I just got one or more of the following error messages:
PopUpCop was unable to load Mapi32.dll.
You must perform this operation manually.
PopUpCop was unable to find the proper function to call in Mapi32.dll.
You must perform this operation manually.
PopUpCop was unable to send this message using MAPI.
You must perform this operation manually.
What must I do now?
You received these messages because your e-mail program is not completely set up.
You need to set your e-mail program to be the default
Mail Application Program Interface (MAPI) provider.
Consult your e-mail program's documentation to learn how to do this.
Here are tips for some common e-mail programs:
Eudora: Tools.Options.MAPI -
Change the setting for Use Eudora MAPI server to Always.
Netscape Messenger: Edit.Preferences.Mail & Newsgroups -
Check the Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-Based Applications box.
Microsoft Outlook Express: Tools.Options.General, Default Messaging Programs -
Press the Make Default button.
Microsoft Outlook:
In the Windows Control Panel, choose Internet Options.
On the Programs Tab, select Microsoft Outlook in the E-Mail combo box.
